“What Zim Crisis?”South African President Thabo Mbeki met with Mugabe in Harare ahead of the SADC summit in Zambia, which Mugabe is boycotting and sending three cabinet ministers in his place. Mugabe’s government and allies attacked Zambian president Levy Mwanawasa for convening the summit. Mbeki told reporters that there is no post-election crisis in Zimbabwe, and urged patience until the full results could be released. For the first time EVER, I have a slight amount of respect for new ANC leader and presidential hopeful Jacob Zuma (of rape and shower fame), who referred to the situation as “serious,” and called the ZEC’s refusal to release the results “unprecedented.” Further concerns over ballot tampering were raised after the ZEC secretly cleared out and then closed its national command center. Because that’s not at all sketchy.
